Pilates for Runners

Let’s talk about Running and Pilates

You’ve probably heard that Pilates is great for your core, but how does this translate to movements that you perform in everyday life?

As a runner, it’s quite likely that you’ve experienced some aches and pains after a run. Sure, a bit of muscle soreness can be expected – we’re not referring to that general feeling of “stiffness” after a workout, but rather an ache or pain caused by an imbalance in the body.

Running and walking are exercises that rely on repetitive movements. If your body is off balance whilst performing these movements, or if you’re exercising with poor technique, this can lead to aches and pains, or even injuries.

For example, if you are putting more weight onto one side of the body while you’re running, this could lead to problems in your knees and hips. By strengthening the core, you stabilise the body so that the limbs can move more freely. A strong core will also help you to distribute your weight more evenly while walking or running, and will give you that feeling of “lightness” in movement.
